
RECIPE: chickpea burgers
Chickpeas are packed with fiber, iron, zinc, phosphorus and B vitamins and are also an excellent source of plant-based protein!
This recipe for chickpea burgers is ideal as a meat substitute or as an extra source of protein for your dinner. Moreover, they are not only tasty, but also quick to prepare! 😉
What do you need
For about 3 burgers:
- ±400 gr. chickpeas
- 1 red onion
- 1 clove of garlic
- 1 egg
- 1 stock cube
- Oil of your choice
- Breadcrumbs
- Optional: (parmesan) cheese
- Herbs to taste (about 1 tsp of each):
- Ginger powder
- (Smoked) paprika powder
- Chives
- Cumin powder
- Chili powder
Preparation method:
- Drain the chickpeas and rinse them in a colander.
- Cut the red onion into pieces and peel the garlic.
- Place the chickpeas, red onion, garlic, egg, stock cube and herbs in a food processor and blend until smooth. Add a little oil if the mixture is too thick, or breadcrumbs if the mixture is too thin. Make sure the texture is firm enough to form into patties.
- Prepare a plate with breadcrumbs.
- Use a spoon to take a ball of the mixture and form it into a burger.
- Place the burger on the plate with breadcrumbs, making sure all sides are covered. Repeat with the rest of the batter.
- Heat some oil in a pan and fry the burgers on both sides until golden brown.
