RECEPT: kikkererwten-burgertjes

RECIPE: chickpea burgers

Chickpeas are packed with fiber, iron, zinc, phosphorus and B vitamins and are also an excellent source of plant-based protein!

This recipe for chickpea burgers is ideal as a meat substitute or as an extra source of protein for your dinner. Moreover, they are not only tasty, but also quick to prepare! 😉

What do you need

For about 3 burgers:

  • ±400 gr. chickpeas
  • 1 red onion
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 egg
  • 1 stock cube
  • Oil of your choice
  • Breadcrumbs
  • Optional: (parmesan) cheese
  • Herbs to taste (about 1 tsp of each):
    • Ginger powder
    • (Smoked) paprika powder
    • Chives
    • Cumin powder
    • Chili powder

Preparation method:

  1. Drain the chickpeas and rinse them in a colander.
  2. Cut the red onion into pieces and peel the garlic.
  3. Place the chickpeas, red onion, garlic, egg, stock cube and herbs in a food processor and blend until smooth. Add a little oil if the mixture is too thick, or breadcrumbs if the mixture is too thin. Make sure the texture is firm enough to form into patties.
  4. Prepare a plate with breadcrumbs.
  5. Use a spoon to take a ball of the mixture and form it into a burger.
  6. Place the burger on the plate with breadcrumbs, making sure all sides are covered. Repeat with the rest of the batter.
  7. Heat some oil in a pan and fry the burgers on both sides until golden brown.

Enjoy your meal!
