Healthy eating doesn't have to be expensive!
Healthy eating should be accessible to everyone. That's why I'd like to share some tips for eating cheap and healthy:
- Choose frozen vegetables and fruit: This is often a lot cheaper and just as healthy. They sometimes even contain more nutrients than fresh products, because they are frozen immediately after harvesting, which means that few nutrients are lost.
- Save on meat: Try to consciously eat more plant-based foods or consider buying meat from the Turkish butcher. Plant-based protein sources such as chickpeas, beans and lentils are often cheaper and offer a nutritious and versatile option. The Turkish butcher often has meat at lower prices.
- Keep an eye on flyers and offers: Fresh produce is often cheaper when it is on offer. You can buy it, cut it and store it in the freezer. You can also buy basic products such as rice in bulk at a discount during offers.
- Cook for yourself: Cooking for yourself is often cheaper than ordering in a lot of food. Make larger portions that you can store for several days to save money. Meal planning can help you shop more efficiently.
- Visit markets and Asian supermarkets: Often products, including healthy options, are cheaper at markets or Asian supermarkets than regular supermarkets. It is worth checking these out.
- Choose seasonal fruits and vegetables: These are often cheaper and often taste better. For example, strawberries are cheaper and tastier in the summer.
Tip : Oatmeal can be expensive in the store, but you can make your own by grinding oats in a blender. This will save you money and give you quick and cheap oatmeal! 😉
Although you will have to be a little more creative and keep a closer eye on the offers, it is certainly possible to eat cheaply, healthily and tasty!
